One of the advantages of a summer stay in the United Kingdom is being able to participate in university life and prepare your academic future. For this reason, our group this summer participated in the Open Day of Cambridge University, one of the most prestigious universities in the world.
What is an Open Day?
An Open Day is an open day held by universities to present their programs and facilities to future students. At the Cambridge University Open Day we were able to learn more about academic life, university programs and feel part of this great institution for a few hours.
What activities are offered during Open Days?
During the University of Cambridge Open Days, attendees were able to participate in a variety of activities to get to know the institution better. Some of the common activities include:
- Informative Talks: Representatives from the university and colleges give talks about academic programs, student life, and research opportunities.
- School tours: Visitors were able to explore the different schools in Cambridge and see their facilities, such as libraries, common rooms and courtyards.
- Information stands: There are stands where detailed information is provided about courses, admissions, fees, aid for international students, financial support and other important aspects.
- Question and Answer Sessions: Attendees were able to ask questions to current students and academic staff to gain a more complete insight into life at Cambridge University.
- Visits to academic facilities: Depending on the study program, visitors can also explore laboratories, classrooms and other academic spaces that normally have restricted access to students or university staff.
- Exhibitions and demonstrations: Some departments offer practical demonstrations or exhibitions to showcase their work and research areas. It’s incredible how much life this university has!
