An international career is not a luxury
Studying abroad is not an unattainable luxury. This was certainly the case in the past, but times have changed and education in Europe has long been democratised. Furthermore, being part of the European Union means that we can move around the 26 member countries with practically the same opportunities as the citizens of each country that makes up the EU.
In some countries around us, education is completely free, both at university and vocational training. This is the case in Denmark, where university fees are subsidised by the government for all students from the European Union. In the case of Holland, the cost does not exceed two thousand euros per year and there are good possibilities of obtaining scholarships.
It is true that life may be more expensive than in Spain, but the advantages that these countries offer to students are much more important than those enjoyed by our young people here. Universities or Academies offer free sports and cultural activities that allow foreigners to quickly integrate with students from all over the world.
Although the differentiating element is that, in countries such as Ireland, Great Britain, Holland, Denmark, it is very common for students to combine study and work.
This is due, first of all, to cultural reasons, but also to the study system itself: more flexible, fewer exams and more group work, fewer class hours and more tutoring with students. In short, proactivity is required and valued on the part of the student in their practical work and presentations instead of the conventional exam to which we are more accustomed in Spain.
Salaries for students who want or need to work are obviously much higher than here and allow them to finance their stay without major difficulties.
Combining study and work has other advantages, apart from the purely economic ones. On the one hand, it allows for greater and faster integration into the lifestyle, makes language learning easier and, on the other hand, it allows you to meet new people so that social assimilation is more natural. This is not a negligible element, there are many students who miss their family, the food at home or their friends and it is important to have a family atmosphere from the beginning.
